Khulna: Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) arrested a member of a gold smugglers' syndicate and recovered eight pieces of gold bars from his possession in the Labanchara area last night. The individual taken into custody was identified as Abdul Awal, 36, son of Khalilur Rahman, residing in Alikamora Dakhsinpara under Chandina upazila in Cumilla. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Labanchara Police Station Md Towhiduzzaman reported that a team from Labanchara Police Station established a check post in the Sachibunia Biswa Road area in the city. This action was taken after receiving intelligence about a gold smuggler traveling with gold bars en route to the Satkhira border. When a bus from Dhaka reached the check post, the police team intercepted it and arrested Awal. The police subsequently recovered eight pieces of gold bars from his abdomen using a special technique. A case has been filed with Labanchara Police Station regarding this incident.
