Dinajpur: The Department of Environment (DoE) of the district has imposed a fine of Taka 48 lakh on the owners of eight brick kilns in three upazilas for operating illegally.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the DoE conducted a two-day drive that resulted in fines of Taka six lakh each for the owners of the brick kilns located in Sadar, Chirirbandar, and Parbatipur upazilas. Md. Molin Mia, the Assistant Director of the district's DoE, confirmed this development at 12 noon today.
He explained that the fines were imposed due to the lack of necessary approval from the DoE, violations of environmental regulations, and the illegal burning of bricks, which contravenes the Brick Manufacturing and Brick Kilns Establishment (Control) Act. Md. Molin Mia emphasized that similar operations will continue to protect the environment from illegal brick kilns.
In addition to the fines, the DoE has completely halted the activities of two more brick kilns by extinguishing their fires, demolishing the kilns, and cutting off the electricity supply to two other brick kilns that were closed earlier. The mobile court was led by Executive Magistrate Abdullah Al Mamun, with Inspector Provati Rani Roy from the DoE, Dinajpur, delivering the prosecution.
