74th birth anniversary of Sheikh Kamal observed in Netrakona

The 74th birth anniversary of valiant Freedom Fighter and Shaheed Captain Sheikh Kamal, the eldest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, was observed here today in a befitting manner.

Netrakona district administration and different socio-cultural organizations chalked out different programmes marking the day.

The day’s programs were formally started with placing of floral wreaths at the portrait of Sheikh Kamal on the Mukto Moncha on local Muktarpara ground here in the morning by deputy commissioner Netrakona Shahed Parvez.

As part of the programs, a discussion and memorial meeting on”the life and works of Sheikh Kamal” was held at the conference room of Netrakona DC office in the morning under the auspices of district administration.

With deputy commissioner of Netrakona Shahed Parvez in the chair, the meeting was addressed, among others, by police super Foyaz Ahmed, additional deputy commissioner (general) Mamun Khandaker, civil surgeon Dr. Salim Mia, former commander of district Muktizoddha Sangsad Nurul Amin, panel mayor of Netrakona municipality SM Mohasin Alam and member secretary of Netrakona Press Club and valiant Freedom Fighter Habibur Rahman.

The speakers paid glowing tributes to the memories of Sheikh Kamal and

highlighted his immense contributions to the country’s Liberation War and

sports and cultural arenas.

A Qurankhwani and Milad Mahfil was held at Netrakona central Jam-e-Mosque

after Zohr prayers under the auspices of Islamic foundation, Netrakona.

Later, the mahfil was followed by a special prayer at the mosque seeking eternal peace of the departed souls of Sheikh Kamal, Bangabandhu and other martyrs who had to embrace martyrdom on the fateful August 15, 1975.

The special prayers were also offered in other mosques, temples, churches and other places of worships across the district.
