Rajshahi:Police recovered the body of a 70-year-old woman from a house in the Kedurmor area of Rajshahi city on Sunday night. The deceased, identified as Khaleda Khanam Beli, lived alone on the second floor of a two-storey building named Beli Villa.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Boalia Police Station Officer-in-Charge Masuma Mustari stated that the body was found in a room around 1130 pm. The initial assessment suggests it may be a murder, as there are signs of injury on her body, and the police are currently investigating the matter.
In connection with the incident, police have detained two women and a man for questioning. A Criminal Investigation Department (CID) team is also involved in determining the circumstances surrounding Beli's death, and a case will be filed.
Local residents described Beli as a widow who lived alone on the upper floor, while other tenants resided on the ground floor. She is survived by four children a son in the United States, a daughter in England, another daughter in China, and a son in Dhaka.
Neighbours had not seen Beli since Saturday. Concerned by her absence, they checked on her and noticed a foul smell coming from the vicinity of her home, prompting them to alert the police. Some believe the murder occurred between Saturday and Sunday, after which the suspects allegedly locked the door from the outside and fled.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
