Dhaka: The Cabinet Division on Thursday announced that 70.73 percent of the decisions made at Cabinet meetings had been implemented as of April 30.
According to United News of Bangladesh, a press release from the Cabinet Division detailed those seven Cabinet meetings were conducted between February 17 and April 30 following the BNP government's assumption of office.
The progress report on these decisions was presented at the 8th Cabinet meeting on Thursday. During this meeting, the Cabinet approved a proposal to ratify an Agreement on the Transfer of Defence Equipment and Technology between the governments of Bangladesh and Japan. This agreement highlights the ongoing cooperation and the strategic partnership between the two nations.
Additionally, the Cabinet approved the signing of a Framework Agreement on the Establishment of the International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA). This decision underscores Bangladesh's commitment to conserving the Royal Bengal Tiger and the Sundarbans ecosystem. The IBCA, formed in April 2023, aims to protect seven major big cat species and currently includes 24 UN member states. The framework emphasizes habitat protection, prevention of illegal trade, and fostering technical cooperation among member nations.
Moreover, the Cabinet endorsed the draft Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration National Action Plan (GCM-NAP) for the period of 2026-2030. The plan, initiated by the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment, aligns with the United Nations' 2018 Global Compact for Migration, which Bangladesh is a part of. Recognized as a GCM Champion Country by the International Organization for Migration in 2020, Bangladesh continues to lead global efforts in migration cooperation.
The draft action plan was developed in collaboration with the IOM, incorporating feedback from various stakeholders before receiving Cabinet approval.
