7 Suspects Arrested for Impersonating Detective Branch Officers in Dhaka

Dhaka: Police on Wednesday night arrested seven members of an organised gang of criminals on charges of committing robberies impersonating them as members of the Detective Branch (DB) of police. The arrested were Md. Deen Islam alias Kausar Ahmed, 35, Md. Kamal Hawlader, 35, Abdur Rahman Hawlader, 37, Md. Mehedi Hasan alias Hasan, 38, Md. Babul Hawlader, 38, Md. Ramiz Talukder, 35, and Jannatul Ferdous, 22.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a team of the DB apprehended the suspects from in front of the Laguna stand on the south side of the Golap Shah Mazar in the Gulistan area under Shahbagh Police Station around 9:05 pm on Wednesday. Authorities seized two DB jackets, two walkie-talkies, a fake police ID card, two handcuffs, two toy pistols, two pocket routers, six Android mobile phones, six button mobiles, expandable batons, and laser lights from their possession.

Deputy Commissioner of the DB of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Muhammad Talebur Rahman confirmed the arrest and seizure. Shahbagh Thana police reported that they were informed of an organised group of robbers preparing to commit a robbery near the Laguna stand in the Gulistan area. Acting on this tip-off, a team from Shahbagh Police Station conducted a raid and made the arrests.

Initial interrogation revealed that the suspects were active members of a gang targeting gold traders and individuals withdrawing large sums of money from banks by posing as law enforcement officers. Records show that there are 10 robbery cases against Md. Deen Islam alias Kausar Ahmed, three against Abdur Rahman Hawlader, four against Md. Mehedi Hasan alias Hasan, two against Md. Babul Hawlader, and four against Md. Ramiz Talukder.
