Tangail: The Detective Branch (DB) of police has successfully apprehended seven members of an inter-district robbery gang who were involved in a brazen house robbery in Ghatail upazila, Tangail. The gang reportedly used firecrackers to aid in their escape after the heist.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the arrested individuals were found in possession of gold ornaments, silver bars, and a mobile phone, which were recovered during the police operation. The individuals taken into custody have been identified as Md Sohag Mondal, 41, Mintu, 38, Mosharraf, 37, Jasim, 33, Aminul, 36, Anwar, 38, and Moynal, 35.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Mizanur Rahman announced the arrests at a press conference held at his office. He revealed that the robbery took place in the early hours of August 18, when the gang forcefully entered the residence of Amar Banik in Chakpakutia village. Armed with locally-made weapons, the group looted cash, gold and silver ornaments, and mobile phones valued at Taka 6,41,800, setting off firecrackers to incite fear before making their escape.
Following the incident, Tangail DB police initiated a shadow investigation. The first breakthrough came on August 24, with the arrest of Sohag Mondal in the Safipur area of Kaliakair upazila, Gazipur district. Under interrogation, Sohag confessed to the crime and later provided a confessional statement in court under Section 164.
Utilizing intelligence from Sohag and other sources, the gang’s leader, Mintu, was captured in Kendua, Netrokona. The remaining members were apprehended in various locations across the Gazipur Metropolitan area through multiple operations. The SP stated that a portion of the stolen gold and silver ornaments was also recovered during these raids.
