7 Hizb ut-Tahrir Men Remanded in Anti-Terrorism Act Case

Dhaka: A court here today placed seven members of the banned Hizb ut-Tahrir on a four-day remand each in a case lodged under the anti-terrorism act with Dhanmandi Police Station. The remanded accused are Md Araf Ibrahim, Md Zubayer, Nishan, Sakib Hasan, Zaved, Abrar, and Mahfuzul Hasan.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate M A Azharul Islam passed the order as police produced the seven before the court and pleaded to place them on a 10-day remand each in the case. The arrests were made by police from the Dhanmandi area on March 21.



Case documents reveal that 140-150 members of Hizb ut-Tahrir organized a rally in front of Dhanmandi Baitul Aman Mosque at around 2.15 pm on March 21. During the rally, they chanted anti-government and anti-state slogans, broke a police barricade, and moved towards Dhanmandi Club Field, causing panic among passersby.



The documents further state that the accused attacked police officers when the law enforcers attempted to obstruct them.
