6th International Conference of Pediatric Gastroenterology Society Concludes at BMU

Dhaka: The two-day 6th International Conference of the Bangladesh Society of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition was held at the Shaheed Abu Sayeed Convention Center of Bangladesh Medical University (BMU) here today. The event brought together over 600 participants, including teachers, specialist physicians, doctors, and students from across the country. Several foreign medical experts also participated in the conference.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the conference focused on the prevention, treatment, and awareness of gastric, liver, and nutrition-related problems in children. It also emphasized the advancement of modern pediatric gastroenterology services. The importance of research and medical education in the field of pediatric gastroenterology and nutrition was highlighted by the speakers.



The opening ceremony featured Prof Dr. Md. Shahinul Alam, Vice-Chancellor of BMU, as the Chief Guest, and was presided over by Prof Dr. A.S.M. Bazlul Karim, president of the society. Special guests included Prof Dr. Md. Abul Kalam Azad, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration), and Prof Dr. Md. Mujibur Rahman Howlader, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Research and Development). Prof Dr. Md. Atiar Rahman, Dean of the Faculty of Pediatrics at BMU, attended as the guest of honour.



The welcome address was delivered by Prof Dr. Md. Rokonuzzaman, General Secretary of the society, while the vote of thanks was given by its Treasurer, Dr. Md Atiar Rahman. The speakers noted that the international conference will play an important role in preventing childhood hepatitis, diarrhea, and chronic liver diseases. It will also enhance knowledge-sharing among physicians and promote research and treatment in pediatric liver and gastroenterology care.



Furthermore, the speakers emphasized ensuring proper nutrition, which is essential for children’s overall health and wellbeing. BMU’s Pediatric Gastroenterology department’s current offers on advanced treatment facilities for children with liver, gastrointestinal, and nutrition-related diseases were highlighted. Additionally, the department’s higher education and ongoing research programs in these fields were showcased at the event.
