Chattogram: In the past 24 hours, law enforcement agency has detained 587 individuals during anti-drug special operations and routine activities in 11 districts in the Chattogram Range, according to the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) office of the Chattogram Range.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a statement issued by DIG Abdul Kuddus Chowdhury revealed that the arrests included 213 people in targeted anti-narcotics operations and 120 in regular cases involving narcotics and other criminal offences. The sweep also saw 73 arrests in connection with previously registered cases, 45 under Section 34 of the Police Act, five under Section 54 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), and 36 under Section 151 and other related legal provisions.
A further 140 people were arrested under outstanding arrest warrants, while 21 others were taken into custody under conviction warrants. The DIG stated that 147 of the arrests were made in narcotics-related cases, including two drug-trafficking couriers and 145 drug consumers. In addition, 66 narcotics traffickers were arrested during regular and supplementary operations.
During the 24-hour drive, 51 narcotics-related cases were filed. Meanwhile, mobile courts conducted alongside the anti-narcotics operations sentenced 64 people to different terms of imprisonment and collected Taka 32,200 in fines. The operations also led to the seizure of 3,262 yaba tablets, 301 litres of illicitly manufactured spirits, 58 kg and 492 grams of cannabis, 156 bottles of imported alcoholic beverages, 30 cans of beer, 45 bottles of Scuf syrup, and 13 tapentadol tablets.
