554 Held in 24-Hour Anti-Crime Drive in Dhaka

Dhaka: The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 554 people in the capital over the past 24 hours as part of its regular anti-crime operations, police said today. Police also filed 30 cases during the period, according to a DMP statement.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the arrests were made across the capital, with the highest number, 174, reported in the Mirpur division, followed by 85 in Wari, 61 in Uttara, 57 in Motijheel, 56 in Tejgaon, 47 in Gulshan, 32 in Lalbagh, and 31 in Ramna.

Detective Branch (DB) arrested four people, while seven were detained by the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit. Police also seized 5,445 yaba tablets, 31.2 kg of cannabis, 20 bottles of Eskaf syrup, 21 mobile phones, eight Visa/credit cards issued by different banks, a private car, and 146 SIM cards of various operators during the operations. Legal proceedings against the arrested suspects were underway, the statement said.
