Dhaka: Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 508 people and filed 50 cases in a 24-hour anti-crime drive across the capital. The operation, aimed at curbing criminal activities, saw extensive participation from various police divisions within the city. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Mirpur Division accounted for the highest number of arrests with 135 individuals taken into custody. This was followed by Tejgaon with 77 arrests, Motijheel with 67, Wari with 64, Lalbagh with 48, Gulshan with 43, Ramna with 33, and Uttara also with 33 arrests. The Detective Branch contributed by arresting eight individuals. The police operations were not limited to arrests alone. Authorities seized a significant amount of illegal substances, including 36,649 yaba tablets, 32.1 kilogrammes of cannabis, 10 packets of heroin, and eight bottles of Phensedyl. In addition to drugs, law enforcement recovered two machetes, a knife, a vanity bag, 19 mobile phones, two gas lighters, two bottle tops, a battery-run auto-r ickshaw, a banner, four litres of petrol, and 14 bamboo torches. Moreover, a victim was rescued during these operations. The arrests and seizures were conducted in separate operations across different police station areas in the capital. Legal proceedings against those arrested are currently underway, highlighting the DMP's commitment to maintaining law and order in Dhaka.
