Dhaka: Detectives in a drive arrested five people while they were allegedly preparing to commit a robbery in Banani area of the capital on Thursday. The arrestees were identified as Md Masud Rana, 29, Md Rajib Hawlader, 30, Hafizul Matbar, 24, Mohammad Shakil Hossain, 24, and Md Badal, 42.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Additional Police Commissioner (DB) Md Shafiqul Islam disclosed the information at a press briefing held at the DMP Media Centre on Thursday. Tipped off, a team of the DB Gulshan Division conducted a drive in front of Khayer Palace in Banani around 9:30am and apprehended the five suspects while they were preparing to carry out a robbery.
Police also recovered various items from the suspects' possession, including a foreign-made pistol, a magazine, a walkie-talkie, a pair of handcuffs bearing the Bangladesh Police emblem, a roll of black Scotch tape, a shopping bag, and a microbus. These tools were likely intended to be used in the planned crime.
Authorities are currently investigating whether the suspects are connected to any organized criminal group and if they have been involved in previous criminal activities. The police have stated that further operations are ongoing to identify and apprehend other individuals who may be associated with the gang.
