Dhaka: On the occasion of the month of victory, Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) has arranged a five-day fair featuring different products of artifacts and handicrafts made by the BSCIC registered entrepreneurs. The fair is open to the public from 10 am to 8 pm every day until December 5, providing an opportunity for attendees to explore a diverse range of locally made products.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the fair showcases items including leather bags, shoes, belts, wooden toothbrushes, spoons, cutlery sets, Handmade Katha, Nakhshi Katha, Jamdani Sharee, Manipuri Sharee, dresses, and bangles. These products are available from 60 stalls set up on the ground floor of the BSCIC central office. The event serves as a platform for entrepreneurs to display their work and connect with potential buyers and investors.
Entrepreneur engineer Raiyan, who transitioned from a banking job to founding Rans Leather Craft, shared his experience with BSS. He emphasized the value of using local materials such as leather, wood, and bamboo, which are both environmentally friendly and affordable. Raiyan views the fair as a critical meeting point for entrepreneurs and consumers, with aspirations to attract foreign investors and eventually export his products.
Hena Begum, another entrepreneur from Jhenaidah, set up a stall named 'Hena Handicraft' featuring handmade Katha. Hena, whose business operates primarily online, highlighted the importance of the fair in allowing customers to physically examine products, which is not possible on digital platforms. She noted that many customers return for repeat purchases after being satisfied with the quality of her products.
The fair is attracting significant public interest, with visitors like Md. Riaz Uddin from Tejgaon expressing admiration for the quality and aesthetic appeal of the items on display. The event offers a vibrant space for interaction between artisans and the community, fostering growth and appreciation for local craftsmanship.
