5.9 Magnitude Quake Hits Myanmar Coast, Tremors Felt in Bangladesh

Minbu: A moderate earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale struck off the coast of Minbu, Myanmar, tonight, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) said.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the epicenter of the tremor was recorded at latitude 20.46°N and longitude 93.95°E, approximately 521 km south-east of the BMD Seismic Centre in Agargaon, Dhaka, as detailed in an official BMD bulletin.



The seismic event occurred at 9:34 pm local time and lasted for a few seconds, the BMD’s Seismic Observatory and Research Centre reported.
