49 arrested for consuming, selling drugs in city

As part of the anti-drug drives in the capital, the members of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested a total of 49 people on charges of selling and consuming drugs during last 24 hours till 6am today.

According to a release issued by the DMP, police conducted the operations against the drug sellers and consumers in different areas under various police stations of the metropolis and detained the drug traffickers and recovered huge drugs from them.

During the anti-drug raids, police seized 13,265 pieces of contraband yaba tablets, 32 grams and 55 puria (small packets) of heroin, 14.730 kilograms of cannabis (ganja), 2 litres of locally made liquor, 8 bottles of foreign made liquor and 59 bottles of phensidyle syrup from them, the release added.

Police filed 41 separate cases against the arrestees in these connections with respective police stations under the Narcotics Control Act.
