Dhaka: Prime Minister's Adviser and PMO Spokesperson Mahdi Amin today announced that around 45 senior executives from 25 leading US companies are set to visit Bangladesh by the end of next week. The visit aims to explore investment opportunities and further strengthen Bangladesh-US economic relations.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the business delegation will engage in a series of meetings with officials from various ministries and government agencies. They are also expected to meet with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. Mahdi Amin provided this information during a briefing outside the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) in Tejgaon, following a meeting between Prime Minister Rahman and the US President's Special Envoy for South and Central Asia, Sergio Gor.
The visit by the US business delegation is considered a significant step towards increasing US investment in Bangladesh and deepening the economic partnership between the two countries. Mahdi Amin noted that the US envoy expressed strong confidence in Bangladesh's leadership under Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, highlighting the political stability and positive progression of the country's democratic journey.
The US side also acknowledged the policies and initiatives undertaken by the government over the past five months. Both parties engaged in detailed discussions on advancing multidimensional and multilateral relations through a stronger economic partnership. Mahdi Amin emphasized the growing international confidence in the Bangladesh government, which is increasingly reflected globally.
The revised US State Department travel advisory is expected to encourage American investors and visitors to explore new economic opportunities in Bangladesh. This visit is anticipated to expand bilateral trade and investment and create substantial employment opportunities in the country.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman recently held a meeting with leading entrepreneurs and industrialists from Bangladesh's business community, which included several ministers, state ministers, advisers, and heads of government agencies. Mahdi Amin mentioned the challenges in governance and trade sectors faced during the previous authoritarian rule and the continuous efforts made by the BNP-led government over the past five months to overcome these obstacles.
Local business leaders have urged the government to address long-term electricity and gas shortages, ensure energy security, reform the tax and tariff systems, and remove investment bottlenecks in economic zones. The Prime Minister assured them of a pro-business and pro-investment environment and took immediate decisions to enhance the efficiency of import and export trade.
In particular, the Prime Minister directed authorities to ensure round-the-clock services at Chattogram Port, Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, and other ports to maintain uninterrupted commercial activities. The government's core objective is to harness the country's demographic dividend by equipping the young population with skills for employment and self-employment, as reiterated by the PMO spokesperson.
The government is committed to implementing people-oriented budgets and policies under the slogan, 'Korbo Kaj Gorbo Desh, Sobar Agee Bangladesh (We Will Work, We Will Build the Nation, Bangladesh First)'. Prime Minister's Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Rumon, Deputy Press Secretary Jahidul Islam Rony, and Assistant Press Secretary K M Nazmul Haque were among those present at the briefing.
