Dhaka: The Detective Branch (DB) of police has detained 44 more leaders and activists affiliated with the banned Awami League (AL) and its associated organizations from various parts of Dhaka within the past 24 hours. The arrests were made as part of ongoing operations aimed at individuals allegedly involved in planning, financing, and participating in unauthorized demonstrations in the capital.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Deputy Commissioner (media and public relations) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Muhammad Talebur Rahman, stated that legal proceedings are underway against those arrested. The detentions occurred during overnight operations as authorities continue their efforts to maintain public order and address activities deemed disruptive.
The individuals arrested include several notable figures from various divisions of the AL and its affiliated groups. Among them are Parvez Anwar Tonu, former sports secretary of Kushtia District Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), SM Aktaruzzaman Tipu, agriculture and cooperative secretary of Kotwali Thana AL, and Md Mahbub Ul Alam alias Parash, joint secretary of Jubo League, Ward No. 10, Motijheel Thana. The list also includes leaders and members from Jubo League, Sramik League, and Swechchhasebak League, among others.
The DMP statement detailed that the arrests were the result of coordinated efforts by multiple teams from the DB and the cyber crime unit. These operations targeted various locations across Dhaka, demonstrating the police's commitment to addressing activities perceived as threats to public peace and safety.
