Dhaka: Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury today announced that the Interim Government has acquired 418 vehicles to enhance the Bangladesh Police's ability to provide swift service to citizens. "In order to ensure quick and effective services to the citizens, the government purchased a total of 418 vehicles including 200 double cabin pickups, 152 motorcycles and 66 other vehicles for the police to solve their vehicle problems," he stated.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Home Adviser disclosed this development after handing over 20 double cabin pickups to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) at its headquarters. He noted that the current number of police vehicles does not meet the demands, highlighting the necessity of this acquisition.
The backdrop to this purchase is the recent July mass uprising, from July 1 to August 6, 2024, during which 526 government vehicles belonging to the Bangladesh Police were destroyed. Among these damaged vehicles were 241 double cabin pickups, 217 motorcycles, and 68 other types of vehicles.
The Home Adviser expressed confidence that the new fleet would significantly boost the police force's ability to provide timely and effective service to the public. "The vehicles will help police to ensure the overall security of the country," he added.
The event was attended by DMP Commissioner SM Sazzat Ali along with additional commissioners of the DMP.
