Gazipur: The selection of 40 Open Market Sale (OMS) dealers to ensure the supply of food products at fair prices to low-income residents in Gazipur has been completed through an open lottery process. The event took place at the Bhawal Conference Room of the District Administration, organized by the Gazipur District Food Controller’s Office.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the lottery was held on Thursday, with Local Government Deputy Director Ahmed Hossain Bhuiyan attending as the chief guest. Other notable attendees included Gazipur Police Assistant Commissioner Mahbubul Alam, Gazipur District Police Additional Superintendent Mozammel Hossain, Gazipur City Corporation Regional Executive Officer Firoz Al Mamun, Gazipur District Acting Food Controller Shafi Afzal Alam, Gazipur Sadar Upazila Food Controller Nayaranu, and District Technical Food Inspector Sohel Ahmed Sufal.

Gazipur metropolis hosts a total of 69 OMS centers distributed across 57 wards, where rice and flour are sold at government-determined prices. While 28 dealers had already been appointed through a previous lottery process, the recent lottery was conducted to select dealers for the remaining 40 centers.

The recruitment process saw a total of 423 applications, with 62 rejected due to documentation errors. From the 361 eligible candidates, 40 were appointed as dealers for the next five years through a transparent lottery process. These selected dealers will sell rice at the government-set price of Taka 30 per kilogram and flour at Taka 24, providing essential support to the poor and low-income community members.
