Dhaka: In recognition of their outstanding contributions to wildlife conservation and research, the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has officially nominated four individuals and organisations for the National Wildlife Conservation Award 2025.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the official gazette issued by Forest Wing-2 of the ministry today announced the final nominees. Md. Fazle Rabbi from Purbo Madhanagar, Naldanga Upazila, Natore District is nominated for wildlife conservation in the Individual Category. The Sherpur Bird Conservation Society is nominated in the Institution/Organization Category. Dr. Md. Monowar Hossain, a professor in the Department of Zoology at Jahangirnagar University, is nominated for wildlife education and research in the Individual Category. Finally, the Department of Zoology at the University of Dhaka is nominated for wildlife education and research in the Institution Category.
As per the award guidelines, each awardee will receive a gold medal weighing 2 bhori (23.32 grams) of 22-carat purity, a cheque for BDT 100,000, and a certificate of honour, a ministry press release said.
This national recognition will enhance public awareness and engagement in wildlife conservation, research, and environmental education. It will also inspire eco-friendly initiatives and motivate future generations to protect the country's rich biodiversity, the press release added.
