Rajshahi: A four-day tourism fair and food festival kicked off at Rajshahi University (RU) today, aiming to promote the rich archaeological heritage and natural beauty of the region.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the RU authority is hosting the fair in front of the Rabindranath Tagore Academic Building for the third consecutive year. The event was inaugurated by Vice-Chancellor Prof Saleh Hassan Naquib, who attended as the chief guest. Pro-VCs Professor Mayeen Uddin and Professor Farid Uddin Khan were present as special guests.
The event also saw the presence of notable figures such as Treasurer Professor Matiar Rahman, Business Studies Faculty Dean Professor SM Kamruzzaman, and Registrar Professor Iftekharul Alam Masud. Director of the Bangladesh Tourism Board (BTB) Abu Selim Mahmudul Hassan attended as the chief patron, while Chairman of the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management Professor Zahid Hossain chaired the ceremony.
In a keynote presentation, former CEO of BTB Zabed Ahmed emphasized the tourism prospects of the region and highlighted the important role local tourists can play in revitalizing the sector. He also mentioned that a 20-year master plan is in progress to ensure the sustainable development of the country’s tourism industry.
The four-day event features a variety of activities, including a colorful rally, folk songs, discussions, and cultural performances, aiming to engage and attract visitors.
