Dhaka: Police have arrested four individuals from various parts of the capital in connection with the shooting of an inspector from the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) during an anti-drug operation in the Sayedabad area on March 2.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the arrested individuals have been identified as Syed Jisan Ahmed, Syed Hasibul Hasan alias Piyas, Omar Faruk Sayem, and Solaiman Hossain Chowdhury. The police recovered three firearms, 23 rounds of bullets, five bullet shells, and a motorcycle during the operation.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Wari Division, Mallik Ahsan Uddin Sami, briefed reporters that Siddiqur Rahman, a DNC inspector, was shot and injured during the anti-drug drive near the Saidabad rail gate area on March 2. During the operation, three to four unidentified assailants opened fire on the DNC inspector and then fled the scene.
A case was filed with Wari Police Station in connection with the incident. In response to the shooting, a team from Wari Police pursued the attackers, which resulted in one of them abandoning a firearm. Acting on secret information, police conducted separate operations in the capital, leading to the arrests of Jisan, Piyas, and Faruk.
Following their confessions, police recovered a 9mm pistol, two magazines, and 16 rounds of bullets. Subsequently, in another operation, police arrested Solaiman and seized a 7.65mm pistol along with three rounds of bullets. Two separate cases have been filed with Wari Police Station related to these arrests.
