Dhaka: Customs intelligence officials have seized 38.50 litres of foreign liquor from the baggage of seven passengers who arrived in Dhaka on an Air India flight from Mumbai.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the liquor, worth an estimated Tk 7.70 lakh, was recovered during a special drive at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. The operation took place on Tuesday following a tip-off received on September 8. Officials from the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate's Airport Circle, C-shift, increased their surveillance of passengers arriving on Air India flight AI2183 from Mumbai.
During the operation, customs officials recovered varying amounts of foreign liquor from the baggage of several passengers. Azmul Hoque was found with 10 litres, Mojammel Haque Bhuiyan with seven litres, Md Imran and Babul Miah with six litres each, Md Nafij Sabat and Al Amin Sheikh with 3.50 litres each, and Saddam Hossain with three litres.
Authorities are now taking further legal action under the prevailing customs laws and regulations to address this breach.
