Sherpur: 36 victims of wild elephant attacks in Nalitabari upazila here in the district today received cheques worth Tk 673,000 under the Wildlife Management and Nature Conservation Act. Wildlife and Biodiversity Conservation Officer Sumon Sarkar, Madhutila Range Officer Md Dewan Ali, Rangtia Range Officer Md Abdul Karim, Somashchura Beat Officer Md Kawsar Hossain, wildlife rights activist Kanchan Marak, and Poragaon Union BNP President Md Mujibur Rahman Chowdhury, among others, were present at the programme.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the compensation was distributed to support those affected by the frequent elephant attacks in the region. The initiative is part of broader efforts to address human-wildlife conflict and support the victims' families. The presence of local officials and activists at the event highlights the community's commitment to wildlife conservation and ensuring the safety and well-being of its residents.
