Chattogram: A total of 329 out of 450 development projects planned for implementation within the first 180 days of the government have been completed in the Chattogram-5 (Hathazari-Bayezid partial) constituency.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, all 27 projects executed with government funding have been completed, while 48 projects are currently under implementation, with an average completion rate of 64 percent. The initiatives span across local infrastructure development including roads, bridges, culverts, canal excavation, drainage, waterlogging mitigation, water supply, electricity, and irrigation. Additionally, projects have been implemented in religious and educational institutions such as mosques, Eidgahs, madrasas, temples, and crematoriums.
Officials report that 38 projects have been completed at mosques and Eidgahs, 25 at madrasas and Hefzkhana, and 15 at educational institutions. Nineteen projects targeted canal and waterlogging issues, while 12 bridges and culverts were constructed to enhance connectivity. Another 48 government-funded projects in water, electricity, and irrigation sectors have been finalized. Land recovery initiatives have also been successfully implemented.
Hathazari Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mohammad Abdullah Al Mumin noted that State Minister for Land and Chattogram Hill Tracts Affairs Barrister Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin prioritized projects based on local needs and pushed for swift execution. “Comprehensive development initiatives are being implemented across the area in line with the state minister’s directives,” he told BSS.
Local BNP leader and Hathazari Municipality convener Zaker Hossain remarked that the recent development activities were unprecedented compared to the past 17 years. He emphasized that recovering government property eased traffic congestion around Hathazari bus station, while canal excavation and drainage improvements reduced waterlogging. Plans are also underway for a 600-bed hospital and a mini stadium in the area.
Zaker Hossain highlighted the importance of State Minister Mir Helal’s consistent presence in Hathazari over the past 20 years, which helped him understand and address local needs. Mir Helal stated that 180 days was a short timeframe, yet he remained committed to meeting public expectations. “A government earns the trust of the people not through promises alone, but through tangible progress,” he told BSS.
The development programme is grounded on principles of development, transparency, accountability, and addressing basic needs. Efforts in the Chattogram Hill Tracts include addressing water shortages in remote areas and broader regional development. To ensure transparency, project progress is regularly updated on the state minister’s official website, and a comprehensive database is being developed to track all initiatives under the action plan.
A fully automated land service application has been launched, enabling citizens to access various land-related services such as payment of land development tax, registration fee deposits, and the issuance of ledger certificates. Mir Helal attributed the development efforts to the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, expressing the government’s commitment to building a “new Bangladesh” by enhancing the quality of life for its citizens.
