3,000 Palm Trees to be Planted in Dinajpur to Prevent Lightning-Related Fatalities

Dinajpur: A palm tree plantation programme was formally inaugurated today in Nawabganj Upazila of Dinajpur district to prevent deaths from lightning strikes. As part of a massive campaign of palm plantation, Ansar and Village Defence Party (VDP) has taken initiatives for planting saplings of 3,000 palm trees to stop lightning-linked deaths.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dinajpur District Commandant of Ansar and Village Defence Party (VDP), Md. Nuruzzaman, inaugurated the programme as the chief guest by planting palm saplings. The Dinajpur district Ansar and VDP have organized the tree plantation programme along various roads of Ballavpur village and surrounding areas of Nawabganj upazila.



On the occasion, Nawabganj Upazila Ansar and VDP Officer Rejina Parvin and Upazila trainer Md. Morshed Jamil were present, among others. At the programme, Nuruzzaman emphasized the importance of planting palm trees, stating that they have high moisture content that can dissipate electrical energy and prevent deaths caused by lightning strikes.



He further explained that this initiative will maintain the environmental balance in Dinajpur and urged all concerned to expand the palm tree plantation programme to protect people from lightning strikes.
