30 Arrested in Connection with Garment Workers’ Unrest in Savar and Ashulia

Savar:Police have arrested 30 individuals in relation to eight cases concerning unrest, vandalism, and arson among garment workers in the industrial areas of Savar and Ashulia.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the situation remained mostly calm on Thursday. Police officials noted that genuine garment workers were no longer protesting, and they alleged that political agitators had infiltrated the movement to incite violence, as stated by Mustafizur Rahman, the Dhaka Range Deputy Inspector General of Police.

Shamima Parveen, the Dhaka District Superintendent of Police, provided details on the cases. She mentioned that two cases were filed at Savar Model Police Station and six at Ashulia Police Station, with more cases currently being prepared. Law enforcement has arrested 30 suspects so far, and operations continue to capture the remaining individuals involved.

The unrest also led to violence against law enforcement personnel. The officer-in-charge of Savar Model Police Station was injured during the disturbances, and a police vehicle was set on fire, which authorities believe was the work of external miscreants, added SP Parveen.
