Three members of a family sustained burn injuries as the compressor of a refrigerator exploded in a house in the capital’s Jatrabari area in the early hours of Thursday.
The victims are Abdul Karim, 30, his wife Khadija Akhter, 25, and their one and a half-year-old daughter Fatema.
Mohammad Hasan, another tenant of the building, said the explosion occurred on the ground floor of Abdul Kalam’s 4-story house at Konapara Arabari Battala area of Jatrabari around 3:30 am, leaving them injured.
Later, they were admitted to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in critical condition.
Karim suffered 54 per cent burns, his wife 95 per cent burn injuries while their child suffered 35 per cent burns, said a physician of the institute.
Karim is being treated at High Dependency Unit (HDU) and two others in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), the physician added.
