3 Held Over Arson at Directorate of Primary Education Store in Mirpur

Dhaka: Police today arrested three people in connection with an arson attack at a store room of the Directorate of Primary Education in Mirpur-2, under Mirpur Model Police Station in Dhaka. The arrestees are Md Asmaul Islam (30), Md Jinnat Ali Biswas (55), and Md Humayun Kabir Khan (59). DMP Additional Commissioner (Crime and Operations) SN Md Nazrul Islam confirmed their arrests in a press briefing held at DMP Media Centre on Mintoo Road here this evening.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the fire was set between 2:00 am and 4:30 am on Friday on the second floor store room. Of 735 laptops stored there, 450 were found intact, 33 partially damaged, 29 severely damaged, and 140 completely burnt, while 83 laptops were missing. Acting on information and using technology, police arrested Asmaul Islam, an office cleaner (master roll employee) of the Directorate, from Mirpur-2 around 3:30 pm today.



During initial interrogation, he reportedly confessed to setting the fire. Based on his statement, police later conducted a raid and arrested the other two suspects from the Directorate premises. The arrests were made swiftly using technical support and intelligence, adding that legal proceedings against the accused are underway.
