3 get imprisonment until death in drugs case

A Thakurgaon court on Thursday sentenced three people to imprisonment until death in a case filed over drug peddling in 2018.

 

District Sessions Court Judge Mamunur Rashid also fined the convicts Tk one lakh each, Advocate Shekhar Kumar Roy, public prosecutor of the court, said.

 

The court also acquitted an accused, Abdul Karim, as the allegations brought against him were not proved.

 

The convicts identified as Akmal, 19, Hashem Ali, 20, and Sadekkur Islam, 34. They are residents of Moradhar villager under Haripur upazila in the district.

 

According to the case statement, police arrested the trio with 300 bottles of phensedyl from Chikni village under Ranisankail upazila on November 15, 2018.

 

Later, a case was filed accusing four people under the Narcotics Control Act at the local police station.

 

After taking testimonies from the witnesses and verifying documents, the court on Thursday handed down the judgment in presence of the accused.
