CHATTOGRAM: In the early hours today, a devastating fire ravaged three furniture factories in the North Katly CDA residential area under Akbar Shah Police Station, causing significant damage and loss.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the fire began at approximately 2:00 am in one of the furniture factories and rapidly spread to two adjacent factories. Firefighters from five units, including those from Agrabad and Chattogram Port, worked to control the blaze, managing to do so by 3:15 am and completely extinguishing it later in the morning. Assistant Secretary Abdul Malek of Chattogram Fire Service and Civil Defense indicated that the fire likely started due to an electrical short circuit.
Malek reported that the fire resulted in damage to furniture valued at approximately Tk 15 lakh. However, the firefighters were able to recover furniture worth around Tk 20 lakh from the affected sites. While the exact cause of the fire is yet to be confirmed, the incident has raised concerns about electrical safety and fire preparedness in the area.
