Dhaka: A three-day international conference on Plant Tissue Culture and Biotechnology began today at Dhaka University (DU). DU Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Professor Dr. Mamun Ahmed inaugurated the event at the Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building this morning.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Department of Botany and the Bangladesh Association for Plant Tissue Culture and Biotechnology (BAPTC and B) are jointly organizing the conference. Professor Dr. Mamun Ahmed, speaking as the chief guest, emphasized the necessity of employing smart biotechnology and industrialized biotechnology to tackle the challenges of food security and environmental protection.
The Pro-Vice-Chancellor also outlined the university’s plans to improve the quality of research by establishing artificial intelligence systems and a data centre. These initiatives aim to support researchers and scientists in skill enhancement through modern technology, facilitating data-driven decision-making and efficient resource utilization.
The inaugural session was led by BAPTC and B President Professor Dr. Rakhari Sarkar. Special guests included Director General of the National Institute of Biotechnology Dr. Md. Sagir Ahmed and DU Biological Sciences faculty’s dean Professor Dr. Md. Enamul Haque. The keynote paper was presented by Fellow Professor of Bangladesh Academy of Sciences Dr. Hasina Khan, while BAPTC and B General Secretary Professor Dr. Muhammad Nurul Islam delivered the welcome speech.
