3 Arrested with Stolen Gold Ornaments in Dhaka

Dhaka: Police recovered stolen gold ornaments and arrested three individuals in the capital’s Mugdha and Sabujbag areas. The arrestees were identified as Md. Anwar, 32, Md. Farid Hawladar, 33, and Md. Milon, 37, according to a media release from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the trio were members of a gang of thieves and were apprehended following a raid in the Mugdha and Sabujbag areas on Friday. They allegedly stole gold and silver ornaments, valued at approximately TK 80,000, along with cash and a mobile phone after breaking the lock of a couple’s house in Mayakanan, Sabujbagh, on December 30.



The stolen items included four pairs of gold earrings, four gold necklaces, two gold rings, a bracelet, one silver necklace, and a pair of jingling anklets (nupur). A case regarding the theft was filed with the Sabujbag police station on January 7.



By collecting and reviewing CCTV footage from the scene, police were able to arrest the suspects and recover tools such as a wrench, a blade (Khur), and a pair of scissors, which were used to break the lock. Based on information from Anwar and Farid, police also arrested Md. Milon from Ma Jewellers on Nandipara Garments Street for allegedly buying stolen gold. During the arrest, 1.10 tolas of melted gold and fabricated gold ornaments were recovered from Milon’s possession.



Legal proceedings are currently underway against the individuals in connection with the theft.
