25th session of JS prorogued

SANGSAD BHABAN, The 25th session of the 11th parliament was prorogued today after nine sittings as the session started on October 22.

The Jatiya Sangsad's (JS) fifth session of the current 2023 year was convened aiming to endorse some important bills which were particularly important for the government before holding the next general elections scheduled in January in next year.

Before reading out the prorogation order of the President, Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury presented a speech of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman while addressing the destitute on January 16, 1972.

The speech of Bangabandhu was collected from the Bangladesh Betar and the duration of the address was 9 minutes 10 seconds.

Leader of the House Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina delivered her valedictory speech at the closing of the session. Leader of the Opposition Begum Raushan Ershad also spoke.

Some 25 laws were passed and a proposal under section 147 also was discussed and adopted in the session.

Along with the legal procedure, a total of 21 important notices were adopted under section 71.

A total of 26 questions where 16 were available for the prime minister's question and answer session and 722 for other ministers were received and 541 were answered by the ministers of the different ministries during the session.

Before reading out the prorogation order, the speaker thanked all MPs of treasury and opposition benches.

Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury also thanked all MPs, officials, journalists, law enforcers and fire service and civil defense personnel for their services for smoothly holding the parliament session.

Since the inception of the current 11th Jatiya Sangsad on January 30, 2019, a total 165 laws were endorsed.
