Dhaka: A total of 254 Sub-Assistant Engineers (SAE) of the Public Works Department (PWD) have been transferred and posted to different offices across the country through a lottery-based process here today. The lottery was conducted at the conference room of the PWD Bhaban here covering 254 SAEs from the country's eight administrative divisions.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the lottery results indicated that 119 engineers were posted to offices in Dhaka Division. In addition, 27 engineers were assigned to each of the Rajshahi, Chattogram, and Khulna divisions. Barishal received 13 engineers, Sylhet got eight, Mymensingh had 11, and Rangpur was assigned 22 engineers.
The lottery process was coordinated by Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Public Works, Md Sarwar Alam. Additional Chief Engineer of PWD Kazi Md. Firoz Hasan was also present at that time, ensuring the process was conducted smoothly.
Additional Chief Engineer of the PWD, Ashraful Haque, mentioned that the lottery-based transfer system is expected to establish transparency, impartiality, and discipline in the department's transfer and posting process. This change aims to enhance fairness and accountability within the department.
Member Secretary of the Diploma Engineers Association (PWD Chapter), Md. Sakhawat Hossain, supported the initiative, expressing that the lottery-based system would restore discipline in the department's transfer and posting procedures. The method is seen as a progressive step toward equitable treatment of personnel.
Among others, PWD Chief Engineer Md. Khalekuzzaman Chowdhury, Joint Secretaries Mohammad Mizanur Rahman and Fauzia Khan, as well as Deputy Secretaries Khan Md. Nazmus Shoaib and Md. Abu Naser, were also present during the lottery event. Their presence underscored the importance of the initiative within the department.
Earlier, on July 30, the department transferred 767 Sub-Assistant Engineers (Civil) through a similar lottery-based process, highlighting the department's commitment to transparency and fairness in its operations.
