Chandpur:A total of 2,476 fishermen in Chandpur municipality received rice today under the Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) programme. This initiative aims to support fishermen and encourage them to avoid catching mother hilsa during its breeding season.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, each fisherman received 25 kilograms of rice as part of the government assistance effort. This distribution is intended to aid fishermen during the 22-day ban on hilsa fishing, which is in effect from October 8 to 29.

The rice distribution event was held at Chandpur Municipal Public Library at 1000 am. Sheikh Farid Ahmed Manik, the Member of Parliament for the Chandpur (Sadar-Haimchar) constituency and president of the district BNP, attended as the chief guest. Other notable attendees included Municipal Administrator Debashish Chowdhury, Municipal Executive Officer Muhammad Nur Azam Bin Akhtar, and various local leaders and dignitaries.

This government initiative under the VGF programme seeks to provide livelihood support to fishermen, encouraging them to refrain from fishing during the ban period. The goal is to protect hilsa reproduction and ultimately increase production.
