Dhaka: Police have arrested 244 more leaders and activists of the Awami League (AL) and its affiliated organizations, seizing 14 crude bombs from various locations across the capital city.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the arrests were carried out by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) based on intelligence reports indicating that these individuals were gathering in different parts of the capital and planning to disrupt public order through surprise processions. The arrests were executed by several divisions within the DMP, with 50 individuals apprehended by the Detective Branch (DB), 27 by the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit, 100 by the Tejgaon Division police, 55 by the Ramna Division, 5 by the Gulshan Division, 4 by the Mirpur Division, and 3 by the Uttara Division.
During the operation, 14 crude bombs and seven banners were confiscated, thanks to the assistance of local residents. DMP Additional Police Commissioner (Crime and Operations) SN Md. Nazrul Islam confirmed these details during a press conference held at the DMP Media Center on Mintoo Road. He expressed gratitude to the city residents for their cooperation, which significantly contributed to the successful arrest of the leaders and activists involved in today’s unplanned processions.
“The DMP is working tirelessly to maintain law and order in the capital,” Islam stated, assuring that these efforts will continue in the future. Additional Police Commissioner of the DB, Md. Shafiqul Islam, was also present during the announcement.
This development follows the recent arrest of more than five hundred leaders and activists of the Awami League and its affiliated organizations in a series of operations conducted by various DMP units.
