Lalmonirhat: Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu today announced the construction of 23 multi-purpose flood shelters in Lalmonirhat. “Bangladesh is known globally as a disaster-prone country and ranks among the most vulnerable nations. Various natural and man-made disasters occur in the country almost regularly, affecting the poor and helpless people, particularly women and children,” Dulu stated.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister made these remarks while laying the foundation stone for the construction of a flood shelter at Itapota Government Primary School in Lalmonirhat Sadar this morning. The project is being implemented by the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED), Lalmonirhat.

The minister elaborated that the building under construction will serve dual purposes: as a shelter centre during disasters and as a school during normal times. These initiatives are seen as significant contributions to disaster management.

Dulu also highlighted that, in alignment with election promises, the government is executing programmes such as Family Cards, Farmers’ Cards, allowances for imams, and various agricultural loan schemes. Despite facing economic pressures, including a global energy crisis, the government remains devoted to public welfare.

He expressed optimism that under the leadership of the Prime Minister, Bangladesh can be developed further as a democratic and advanced nation. The event was attended by Lalmonirhat zila parishad administrator AKM Mominul Haque, LGED executive engineer Md Kawser Alam, along with other administrative officials, political leaders, and professionals.
