Dhaka: Police today detained 23 people on suspicion of involvement in militant activities during a raid at Tejgaon College Jame Mosque in the city's Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Tejgaon Division Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Ibn-e-Mizan stated that the 23 individuals were detained from the mosque following intelligence information about a gathering there. Police reported receiving information that a group of around 25-30 people, allegedly led by a man named Shihab Uddin, was holding a meeting on the second floor of the mosque.
Police subsequently launched a drive at the mosque and detained 23 people from the spot. Approximately 30-40 police personnel, including senior officers, participated in the operation. "They were detained based on intelligence information. Verification and screening of their identities and backgrounds are underway," Mizan said.
Authorities are currently investigating the detainees' identities and possible links to militant activities. Members of the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit also arrived at the scene following the operation. Police indicated that the overall situation in the area is being closely monitored.
