22nd Council Meeting of MIST Highlights Future Development Plans

Dhaka: The 22nd Council Meeting of the Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) was held at the university with Education Adviser Dr. Wahiduddin Mahmud presiding over the session. The meeting saw the participation of prominent figures such as General Waqar-uz-Zaman, Chief of Army Staff, Admiral M Nazmul Hassan, Chief of Naval Staff, and Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmud Khan, Chief of Air Staff, as announced in an ISPR release.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the meeting was attended by various council members, including Lieutenant General S M Kamrul Hassan, Principal Staff Officer of the Armed Forces Division, Md. Ashraf Uddin, Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, and several other key military and academic officials. Discussions focused on future developments for MIST, resulting in several significant resolutions. These include plans to expand seat capacities in BSc Engineering programs, create new faculties and departments to enhance international university rankings, introduce an MSc in Cybersecurity, and establish a Biomedical Research and Innovation Centre.



Dr. Wahiduddin Mahmud began the meeting by paying tribute to the martyrs of the 1971 Liberation War and those who lost their lives in the recent student-people anti-discriminatory movement, including two students from MIST. He emphasized the need for MIST to prepare for future technological challenges and underscored the importance of research in Artificial Intelligence and Robotics in the context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.



General Waqar-uz-Zaman congratulated MIST on its rapid progress in technology education and research, expressing confidence in its continued growth and international standing. Admiral M Nazmul Hassan and Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmud Khan praised MIST’s contributions to education, research, and innovation, particularly in preparing defense personnel and producing world-class engineering graduates.



Commandant MIST, Major General Md Nasim Parvez, welcomed the meeting’s attendees and addressed the institute’s achievements and challenges. In closing, Dr. Wahiduddin Mahmud expressed his gratitude for the active participation and constructive discussions, expressing optimism that the meeting’s decisions would lead to greater innovation and excellence in technological education at MIST.
