Rangpur: Police arrested 22 individuals on charges of attempting to free a suspected female kidnapper from police custody in Rangpur city. The woman, Aduri Begum, was apprehended after allegedly kidnapping four children from the railway station area on the night of March 28.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the suspects were presented before the Rangpur Metropolitan Magistrate Court, where Judge Md. Soyebur Rahman ordered their detention in Rangpur Central Jail based on custody warrants. Metropolitan Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ataur Rahman stated that the incident occurred when a local crowd tried to intercept the police as they detained Begum, leading to a tense situation.
OC Ataur Rahman added that the situation was defused with the arrival of army personnel, who assisted in safely escorting Begum to the police station. In response to the attempted interference, a case was filed at the Metropolitan Kotwali Police Station against those trying to abduct the suspect from custody.
The arrested individuals include Md. Rubel, Md. Hridoy, Md. Shah Paran, Md. Zahid Hasan, Md. Saddam Hossain, Shakib Hossain, Md. Shahadat Hossain, Shamsher Ali, Ismail Hossain, Sonu, Shaju Mia, Javed, Zahid Golden, Badal Mia, Sohel, Dulal Mia, Afsar Ali, Sayeed Hossain, Shahjahan Hossain, Abdul Hamid alias Hira, Javed of Saidpur town, and Rezaul Karim of Pirgachha upazila in Rangpur.
