2,028 Candidates, Including 83 Women, Compete in Bangladesh’s 13th Jatiya Sangsad Polls

Dhaka: A total of 2,028 candidates from 50 political parties and independent ones are contesting in 299 seats in the 13th Jatiya Sangsad polls slated for tomorrow. Of them, 83 are women candidates, said Election Commissioner Brigadier General (retd) Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah. However, voting in the Sherpur-3 constituency has been postponed due to the death of a candidate.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, out of the total candidates, 1,755 are contesting from political parties and 273 are independent ones. Among the female candidates, 63 are from parties and 20 are independent. Among the male candidates, 1,692 are vying in the polls from parties and 253 are independent ones.

Sanaullah stated that the elections and referendum will be held on February 12 in 299 parliamentary seats out of 300. He highlighted that voting will take place from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm using ballot papers in transparent ballot boxes. The commissioner assured that if any voters are waiting within the area of polling centres after 4:30 pm, their voting will be completed as per the law.
