CPN-US convention documents sent to all districts

Kathmandu: The documents prepared by the CPN (US) for the 10th National Convention is being sent to the districts starting May 28. The political, socialist programs, party statutes and organisation-related documents prepared for the convention are going to be sent to the district committees for discussion and feedback, said Politburo member Dilu Pant. The party chair Madhav Kumar Nepal has prepared a political document by reviewing matters related to nationalism, caste, linguistic and social discrimination as well as the contemporary national and international situation. Senior leader Jhalanath Khanal has prepared a socialist document by fundamental contradictions of the Nepali society for the socialist revolution and transformation of the country. Party vice-chair Beduram Bhusal has developed the legislative document while the organizational document has been prepared by General Secretary Ghanshyam Bhusal. Central member Mohan Gautam shared that the four reports will be integrated into one document base d on the conclusions reached after discussion in the committees at all levels. Need to conclude peace process soon: Minister Sharma

Kathmandu: Minister for Communications and Information Technology Rekha Sharma has emphasized that the remaining part of the peace process should be completed as soon as possible. Addressing a program organized here on the occasion of the 22nd Krishna Sen 'Ichchuk' Memorial Day, Minister Sharma, also government spokesperson, said that the remaining part of the peace process should be completed as soon as possible through the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. "It is very sad that the peace process has not been completed yet, it should be concluded soon", she said. Minister Sharma said that the peace process should not be made a political issue. Stating that the peace process should be taken as the peace process of the entire country rather than just that of an individual, party or leader, she emphasized that it should be completed as soon as possible as it is a matter of the entire state. She said that the bill related to truth and reconciliation commissions should be passed as soon as possible from the parliament. "If we really want to give justice to Krishna Sen, to all the disappeared persons like Sen then the bill should be passed as soon as possible. After the bill is passed, the overall peace process of Nepal should be finalized." Minister Sharma also lauded the contribution of many individuals, including late Sen, to make the People's War a success. She emphasized that the contribution made by the freedom fighters including Krishna Sen should be recognized while taking pride over the fact that Nepal is a federal democratic republic. Excavator driver killed in landslide

An excavator driver was killed in a landslide near the three-number bridge at Ichchhakamana rural municipality-5 along the Narayangadh-Muglin road section in Chitwan. The deceased has been identified as Mangal Chaudhary, approximately in his late 30's. He was struck by a landslide that occurred unexpectedly as the road widening work (cutting a cliff) was going on. He was a resident of Geduwa rural municipality-4 in Bardiya, and the landslide buried him along with the vehicle (Ba 2 Kha 8651), according to the District Police Office, Chitwan. Office Spokesperson Deputy Superintendent of Police, Bheshraj Rijal, confirmed the occurrence of the landslide this morning, leading to the death of the excavator driver. Though he was rescued and rushed to the Old Medical College in Chitwan, he breathed his last in the course of the treatment. The vehicle was completely damaged in the incident while a truck (Na 6 Kha 1511) en route to Narayangadh from Muglin was also damaged. However, the vehicular movement along the area remained continued and works are in progress to clear off the landslide debris, it is said. Source: National News Agency Nepal

PM Dahal meets with NC President Deuba

Kathmandu: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' has urged the major opposition Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba to end the ongoing deadlock in the Parliament. Prime Minister Dahal reached at the residence of President Deuba and the two leaders met one on one and with other NC leaders separately. In the meeting, PM Dahal urged Deuba to initiate to resume the House business as it is being obstructed by the NC. The Nepali Congress is demanding the parliamentary probe committee to investigate into the cooperatives' fund embezzlement. Following the meeting, NC deputy general secretary Jeevan Pariyar said that the PM was seriously making efforts to resume the house business and met with the NC leaders for the same. He added that the meeting was fruitful regarding the agenda discussions. There is a schedule to have a meeting of the major party senior leaders to resume the House business today. Pariyar further shared that the President Deuba had invited PM Dahal and CPN (UML) chair KP Sharma O li at his residence for talks as he was not feeling well to attend the meeting outside. Govt appoints Hasan Mahmood Khan as BAF Chief

The government has appointed Air Vice Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan as the new chief of Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) by promoting him to the rank of Air Marshal. The appointment will come into effect from June 11, said an Inter Services Public Relation Directorate (ISPR) press release issued here today. Adverse weather affects TIA air service for 15 minutes

Kathmandu: Adverse weather affected the operation of flights at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) today. According to the TIA office, its service towards both domestic and international sectors was disrupted by 15 minutes today (from 11:30 am to 11:45 am) due to visibility issues. TIA Spokesperson, Subash Jha, said rain forced them to suspend the flights for 15 minutes. Now, the flights have resumed. The weather is generally cloudy in the Kathmandu Valley since the morning. Various parts of it presently report light rainfall. As the Meteorological Forecasting Division said rain is taking place at different parts of the country due to the impact of local winds. 6 transport extortionists arrested in city’s Jatrabari area

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested six persons who were allegedly involved in collecting extortion illegally from the transport in the city's Jatrabari area. "Being informed, a team of RAB-10 arrested them from the city's Jatrabari Thana area around 2.30pm on Saturday", said assistant director of RAB-10 M J Sohel. The arrestees were identified as M Abdur Rashid, 66, M Babul Hossen, 56, M Shahidul Islam, 45, M Arman, 42, M Foysal Hossen, 35, and M Russel Khan Rony, 30. Employees of SKS Foundation brought under Universal Pension Scheme in Gaibandha

The employees of SKS Foundation, a Gaibandha base non- government development organization working in different districts of the country, have been brought under Universal Pension Scheme of the government on Saturday. In this regard, a view exchange meeting was held at SKS Inn with Murshed Alam Sarker, president of the organization, in the chair. Executive vice chairman of Microcredit Regulatory Authority attended the function as the chief guest and executive chairman of National Pension Authority spoke at the event as a guest of honor. Rangpur divisional director of Health Dr ABM Abu Hanif and additional deputy commissioner-ADC (ICT-Human resources) Sushanta Kumar Mahato were present as special guests. The chief guest in his speeches said the formulation of the universal pension scheme is a gift for the Nation from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. All citizens of the country would be benefitted from this pension scheme as it would ensure security for all, he also said. This universal pension sch eme is the dream of Bangladesh's independence, there is talk of political and economic emancipation of people, he said adding that A goal has been set to build a happy and prosperous developed 'Smart Bangladesh' by 2041. To implement this goal, a well-organized social security framework is has been constructed by the government to ensure the social and financial security of the elderly population of the society. Honorable guest KabirulIsdani in his speeches said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in her election manifesto in 2008 had pledged to formulate an universal pension scheme to bring the elderly people under a sustainable and well-organized social safety structure. A daylong workshop on 'Right to Information (RTI) of Backward, Marginalized and Underprivileged Citizens' will be held tomorrow in the conference room of the Information Commission Bangladesh in the city. State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Mohammad Ali Arafat, MP, will inaugurate the workshop as the chief guest. Appeal seeking stay on order to cancel 169 VNSC students’ admission filed

A petition was filed today with Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, pleading to stay a High Court order that upheld decision to cancel the admission of 169 first-graders at Viqarunnisa Noon School and College (VNSC) due to non-compliance with the enrolment regulations. Supreme Court lawyer Barrister Sayedul Hoque Suman filed the plea with the concerned wing of the Appellate Division. The High Court on May 21 had upheld decision to cancel the admission of 169 first-graders at Viqarunnisa Noon School and College (VNSC) due to non-compliance with the enrolment regulations. A High Court division bench of Justice JBM Hassan and Justice Razik-Al-Jalil pronounced the judgment, declaring absolute a rule issued earlier in this regard. The court in its judgment, asked school authorities to fill the seats, which fell vacant because of the cancellation of the admission, from the waiting list within 15 days. The court also formed a three-member committee to probe whether any irregularities took place in admission process including while filing enrolment application online by the students whose admission were cancelled. Barrister Mustafizur Rahman Khan and Barrister Syed Sayedul Hoque Suman defended the case of 169 students, while Advocate Shamim Sarder stood for the writ petitioners. Jhenaidah-1 MP-elect Nayeb Ali Joarder takes oath

Nayeb Ali Joarder, who was elected unopposed in the by-polls to Jhenaidah-1 constituency, today took oath of office as the Member of Parliament (MP) in the 12th Jatiya Sangsad (JS). JS Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury administered the oath to Joarder at Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban here, a press release said. JS Secretariat senior secretary KM Abdus Salam moderated the oath-taking ceremony. JS Chief Whip Noor-E-Alam Chowdhury, Whips - Iqbalur Rahim, Nazrul Islam Babu and Sanjida Khanam and lawmaker Md Nasser Shahrear Zahedee were present. Educational institutions are prepared as cyclone shelters: Mohibul

State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Mohibur Rahman today said that all educational institutions have been kept ready as shelters in the coastal areas where the severe cyclone 'Remal' could hit. 'All educational institutions have been prepared as shelters where the cyclone 'Remal' could strike. These educational institutions will remain open here but no class will take place,' he said. The state minister said this after holding a meeting of the inter-ministerial disaster management coordination committee at the secretariat here. Cabinet Secretary Md Mahbub Hossain, Senior Secretary of the Public Administration Ministry Mohammed Mezbah Uddin Chowdhury and representatives of various ministries, departments and organizations were present in the meeting.
