Leave to appeal against GM Quader as JP Chairman dismissed

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court today dismissed a leave to appeal seeking bar on GM Quader's responsibility as Jatiya Party (JaPa) Chairman. A four-member bench in the Appellate Division led by Appellate Division's Senior Judge M Enayetur Rahim passed the order today. At the same time, the Appellate Division asked the High Court to settle the rule on the matter. Former MP Ziaul Haque Mridha, also an expelled leader of the JP, filed a case on October 4, 2022, seeking an injunction against GM Quader in performing duties as Jatiya Party Chairman. In view of the plaintiff's application, on October 31 of that year, the Joint Dhaka District Judge Court-1 issued a temporary order barring GM Quader to act as JP Chairman. Later, GM Quader filed an application seeking cancellation to the ban which the District Judge court of Dhaka rejected it. As Quader applied for a revision before the High Court, the ban order was suspended. In addition, the High Court also issued a rule in this regard. Coordinated efforts by all needed to prevent juvenile crimes: Dipu Moni

Social Welfare Minister Dr Dipu Moni today said that coordinated efforts by all should be taken to prevent juvenile crimes, which are increasingly becoming a matter of concern for society. 'We've to take coordinate efforts to thwart juvenile crimes . . . Family as well as society will have to play a prime role in this regard,' she said while speaking as the chief guest at the seminar, titled 'Types and Causes of Juvenile Crimes: A Research Study on Children Stayed in Child Development Centres'. The social welfare minister said political influence and establishing supremacy in locality are the main reasons behind the juvenile crimes in the country. Nari Oykko Parishad organized the seminar at the CIRDAP auditorium with its president, Lutfun Nesa Khan, in the chair. 'If human relations remain good, family bondage remains strong, and society as well as the community play a positive role, juvenile crimes will come down to a great extent in the country,' she added. The introduction of moral education , sufficient sports facilities, and religious education can play a role in reducing juvenile crimes, she said. Mango harvesting in Rajshahi to begin from May 15

Mango harvesting of the current season is going to start from May 15 everywhere in the district to ensure the natural ripening of the seasonal delicious fruit. Farmers can harvest the local and indigenous varieties from May 15 while Gopalbhog from May 25, Ranipachhand and Lakhna from May 25 and Himsagar or Khirshapat from May 30. They can also harvest Langra from June 10, Amropali and Fazly from June 15, BARI Aam-4 from July 5, Ashwina from July 10, Gourmati from July 15 and Ilamati from August 20. The District Administration has announced a mango harvesting calendar fixed the date in a meeting with all stakeholders related to mango harvesting and marketing held at the conference hall of Deputy Commissioner (DC) today. With DC Shamim Ahmed in the chair, the meeting was addressed, among others, by Additional DC Kolyan Chowdhury, Deputy Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) Umme Shalma, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Sabina Yeasmin and Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Nur Hossain Nirjhar. In the meeting, the target has been fixed to produce around 2.15 lakh tonnes of mango from different mango orchards, on 18,515 hectares of land, here this year and the district administration has issued notices fixing the dates for harvesting different varieties of mangoes. DC Shamim Ahmed said the district administration will remain vigilant against harvesting and marketing of immature mangoes. Law enforcing agencies and upazila administrations were already given instruction to this end. City University introduces e-sign based certificates

City University in its 4rth convocation has introduced e-sign based smart academic certificates and other academic credentials to the students in association with Relief Validation Limited (RVL), a duly licensed Certifying Authorities (CA) by the ICT Division. The first ever convocation with e-signed certificate distribution was held on Saturday in the Bangabandhu Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Center Auditorium at Purbachal, Dhaka, with Education Minister Mohibul Hassan Chowdhoury, MP, as the chief guest and Ahsanul Islam, state minister, Ministry of Commerce, as a special guest. Economic affairs adviser to the prime minister Dr Mashihur Rahman delivered the convocation speech. City University and RVL joined hands together to incorporate the electronic signature technology namely 'e-Sign' and 'verifiable digital seal (VDS)' into the university's current process of issuing certificates and other academic credentials to its students. With the implementation of e-Sign and VDS, which is prov ided by Relief Validation Limited Certifying Authority, City University has taken a big leap towards digitising conventional processes as now students will be able to apply for and acquire their Academic Certificates online. As the certificates will be digitally and uniquely signed, students will be able to use it with the relevant stakeholders electronically, eliminating the current lengthy process of verification and validation. As Bangladesh moves towards accomplishing the "Smart Bangladesh 2041" masterplan, this step forward from City University as the first private tertiary educational institution will certainly encourage relevant stakeholders to consider adapting state of the art technologies as a part of process improvement.
