Petrol bomb hurled at school bus in Chitwan

A bus that was on its way to collect school children came under petrol bomb attack on the Dadrahani Bridge at Bharatpur Metropolitan City-20 this morning, police said. Spokesman for the District Police Office Chitwan, Deputy Superintendent Bhesh Raj Rijal said some unknown assailants who came in a group of six threw petrol bomb on the bus (Bagamati Province 06001 Ka 0045) this morning. They ordered the driver and his helper to disembark before hurling the Molotov cocktail on the bus. The bus caught fire due to this and was completely burnt. "Police have initiated investigation into the incident and who threw the petrol bomb and their motive would be known only after this," DSP Rijal said. Source: National News Agency Nepal

One killed in gang fight, four accused arrested

Kathmandu: One person was killed in a clash between two gangs in Kumari Tole of Battisputli in Kathmandu Metropolitan City-9. In the incident that took place last night, Shambhu Dhimal,24, of Morang was killed, District Police Range Kathmandu Spokesperson Nabaraj Adhikari said. Four people have been arrested and are under investigation for their involvement in the incident. Dhimal's body has been kept at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital Maharajgunj for a post-mortem, said spokesman Adhikari. Source: National News Agency Nepal

Municipality provides scholarship to 214 students

Galyang municipality has provided scholarships to poor and diligent students to ensure that no one is deprived of higher education due to financial problems. Full scholarships have been provided to the very poor, disadvantaged and underprivileged students of Grade 11 and 12, said Himalal Bhandari, head of the education department of the Municipality. Such students of Galyang Multiple Campus and Malunga Multiple Campus have been provided Rs 10,800 as monthly fees. This year 214 students have been paid Rs. 1.3 million in monthly fee and scholarship, he said. Mayor of the Municipality Guru Prasad Bhattarai said that the scholarship was given to students with the aim of ensuring that no one is deprived of education due to inability to pay the monthly fee and to establish access to education for all. Fund raising campaign to purchase Haematology Analyzer machine

Former students of Janata Secondary School located in Bardibas municipality-2 have started a fund raising campaign to purchase a Hematology Analyzer machine. For this they have set up an organization called Bardibas Helping Hands. Meanwhile, the organisation handed over Rs 59,000 collected for the purchase of the equipment to Nepal Red Cross Society Bardibas sub-branch on Saturday. Hematology analyzers are used to count and identify blood cells at high speed with accuracy. On the occasion, Minister of State for Home, Law and Communications of Madhes Shardadevi Thapa also pledged to support on her part as an alumnus of Janata Secondary School. Since none of the district hospitals in Madhes province have the Complete Blood Count (CBC) machine, there is a compulsion to depend on federal capital Kathmandu or outside the country. "Bardibas Helping Hands has started the campaign by handing over the cash while many social organizations and the local level of the district have shown interest in helping us", said Rewant Karki, Chairperson of the Red Cross Society. CPN-US Politburo meeting on Monday

Kathmandu: The Politburo meeting of CPN (US) is going to be held on Monday. The meeting is being held to discuss the draft report to be submitted in the upcoming national general convention of the party. According to Politburo member Dilu Pant, the draft of the party's political, socialist program, organizational report, and legislation amendment report will be presented in the meeting. The politburo will also discuss the decision of the party's standing committee that is meeting today. The meeting will approve the agenda to be presented in the Central Committee meeting scheduled to be held on March 14 and 15. Education Minister appeals for reusing textbooks

Kathmandu: Minister for Education, Science and Technology Sumana Shrestha has urged all to pay attention to the possibility of reusing school textbooks. The Education Minister said that the government has been allocating funds for free textbooks every year, but if the books can be reused, the money spent on production and distribution can be saved and used for scholarships. According to the Minister's secretariat, a programme has been set for the Minister to visit the classrooms of some public schools and explain about the reuse of books. PM Dahal vows to address gaps in nursing service

Kathmandu: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' has pledged to make efforts to establish uniformity in facilities for nurses. In his address to the 14th National Nursing Conference here today, the Prime Minister admitted that facilities for nurses are not satisfactory and uniform. This gap should be addressed and a minimum wages for them be guaranteed, according to the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister promised to make provision in the policy-level to provide fair job opportunities for nurses within the country. Stating that the Nepal's latest achievements in health care facilities are significant, he said in Nepal nursing has been one of the attractive service sectors, suggesting its promising future. As he said, the government has realised that an implementation of advanced policies, plans and programees is needed in the nursing sector for its proper management and development as per the need of time. He said the government is well aware of an increased workload on nurses due to an imbalance ratio between the service quota and an influx of patients, the Prime Minister expressed his hope that the situation would be addressed in the days to come. Prime Minister Dahal was of the view of ending the situation forcing technical forces in the nursing service to work as interns for long and depriving nurses of even minimum remunerations. He advocated for coming with incentive for nurses working in the rural and far-flung areas. PM Dahal and NC president Deuba hold meeting

Kathmandu: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' and president of the main opposition party, Nepali Congress (NC), Sher Bahadur Deuba have held a meeting today. In the meeting took place at the Prime Minister's residence in Baluwatar this morning, the two leaders discussed on contemporary topics, including running the Parliament meeting, said the NC Chief Whip Ramesh Lekhak, who was present in the meeting. On the occasion, the NC leaders had informed the Prime Minister about their issues, including formation of a parliamentary committee for conducting an impartial investigation in connection with the misappropriation of the cooperatives' funds. Lekhak said that the Prime Minister was positive on the NC's demand. He added that the NC's parliamentary party meeting scheduled for Monday will discuss and take a decision on this matter. The main opposition party has been calling for the formation of a parliamentary committee for carrying out a fair investigation, saying the involvement of Deputy Prime M inister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane has been seen in the misappropriation of the cooperative's amount. The government has decided to present its policies and programmes for the next fiscal year in the joint sitting of Parliament on May 14. PM Dahal held discussions with NC leaders including party president Deuba today in connecting with ending the House obstructions before the presentation of the government's policies and programmes. Adv Juthi secures bail in case over SCBA polls violence

A Dhaka court today granted bail to Advocate Nahid Sultana Juthi in a case lodged over violence centering the recent Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) polls. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbub Ahammed passed the order as Advocate Juthi surrendered before the court and pleaded for bail in the case. Assistant Attorney General Shaifour Rahman Siddique Saif, who was physically assaulted during the counting of ballots of the election, filed the case on March 8 against 20 people including Nahid Sultana Juthi and former SCBA secretary Md Ruhul Quddus Kazal and 30-40 more unnamed people. The plaintiff in the case accused Juthi and others of forcing the election commissioner to declaring result without even completing the counting of ballots, snatching an iPhone and cash from his pocket, attacking and assaulting him with rod, stick and chair. The other accused are- Advocate Md Zakir Hossain Masud, Adv Shakila Rousan, Adv Qazi Bashir Ahmed, Barrister Osman, Adv Arif, Adv Sumon, Adv Tushar, Robiul, Barrister Ch oudhury Moushumi Fatema, Saidur Rahman Jewel, Oliur, Joydeb Nandi, Main Uddin Rana, Moshiur Rahman Suman, Kamal Hossain, Aslam Raiyan, Adv Torikul and Adv Sohagh. Bangladesh welcomes AI but to take steps for preventing misuse: PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today said Bangladesh welcomes Artificial Intelligence (AI), but it would take some protection measures to check its misuse. "We welcome AI, but we have to take some protection measures by enacting laws for preventing its misuses," she said. The premier said this while Archbishop Kevin S. Randall, Apostolic Nuncio of the Holy See to Bangladesh called on her at her official residence Ganabhaban here. Prime Minister's Speech Writer M Nazrul Islam briefed the newsmen after the meeting. The prime minister said Bangladesh is the country of religious harmony where Muslims, Hindus, Christians and Buddhists are living peacefully. "We celebrate our festivals all together," she added. Sheikh Hasina also invited the Pope to visit Bangladesh through Archbishop Kevin S. Randall. Archbishop Randall appreciated Bangladesh's stance and move on climate change and Rohingya issues. None from 51 institutions passes SSC, equivalent exams

Students from 51 schools and madrasahs under five education boards out of 11 boards failed to come out successful in this year's SSC and equivalent examinations. According to the SSC results published here today, two institutions are in Rajshahi Education Board, three in Dhaka, five in Mymensingh and 42 institutions are in Madrasah Education Board. The number of schools and madrasahs with "zero results" was 48 last year. A total of 20, 13,597 examinees appeared in the SSC and equivalent examinations this year.
