Port City florists expect to rake in Tk 5 crore on Valentine’s Day

The florists of Chattogram district have set a target to sell flowers worth Tk 5 crore ahead of Valentine’s Day, Pahela Falgun and International Mother Language Day.

Naser Goni Chowdhury, president of Chattogram Flower Traders Shop Owners Oikkya Parishad and senior vice-president of Bangladesh Flower Society, said “This year, the selling of flowers will be good as the political situation is better than last year. Besides, people are participating in any festivals.”

He also expected to sell more ahead of the International Mother Language Day.

Last year, they sold local variety rose at Tk 40, Chinese variety Tk 70 and pick colour rose at Tk 120 per piece and if the price is stable then they will be able to sell flowers worth Tk 5 crore, he said.

There are 270 shops under the Chattogram Flower Traders Shop Owners Welfare Association and flowers from Jashore, Dhaka, Chakaria, Dohazari, Chandanish, Hathazari and Nazirhat areas were available at the shops, he said.

Besides, flowers worth Tk 50 lakh have been imported from foreign countries including Chaina, Singapore, Bangkok and India on the occasion of Valentine’s Day, Pahela Falgun and International Mother Language Day, he added.

The florists' revenues can touch Tk 10-15,000 on a regular day, but on Valentine’s Day they grow exponentially, said Naser Goni.

Md Ibrahim, a florist in Hathazari upazila, said “This year I got enough order and that’s why I have to be prepared to produce more flowers. The demand for roses is highest.”

A thousand pieces of marigold are being sold at Tk 250, Gypsy one bunch is being sold at Tk 15-20, Chandramallika (Chrysanthemum) per piece is being sold at Tk 3-4, Chinese marigold is being sold at Tk 400-500 per 100 piece and an order of 100 roses will fetch upto Tk 1500, he said.

Visiting the flower shops at Cheragi Hill area and Momin Road in city, this correspondent found that one piece local variety rose is being sold at Tk 40-50, China variety rose is being sold at Tk 70 and pink rose is being sold at Tk 120 per piece.

Mondol Group opens fashion outlet in Belkuchi

Ambrela, a fashion brand of apparel exporter Mondol Group, opened an outlet in Sirajganj's Belkuchi Sunday.

Abdul Momin Mondol, managing director of Mondol Group and lawmaker from Sirajganj-5, inaugurated the new outlet of Ambrela, the 27th of the fashion brand, at the Mukundaganti Bazar area of the upazila, said a media statement Sunday.

Abdul Alim Mondol, director of Mondol Group, and top officials of Ambrela were also present at the programme.

Mondol Group plans to open 100 outlets of Ambrela across the country to employ people at the grassroots level and develop the country's cottage industry, said the company.

14 idols vandalised: Tk 1 lakh bounty announced for information leading to attackers

Local administration on Monday announced a bounty of Tk 1 lakh for information leading to the attackers involved in vandalising 14 idols at 12 temples in Baliadangi upazila of Thakurgaon district.

Baliadangi Upazila Parishad Chairman Ali Aslam Jewel declared the bounty at noon.

“Whoever did this, should not be done this. We are now all together and such incidents have been occurred in our area for the first time. Already I have visited the temples and talked to many people over the issue,” he said.

Fourteen idols of Hindu gods and goddesses of twelve temples under three unions—Dhantola, Charol and Paria unions—have been found broken on February 4.

Jatindranath Sing, president of Sindurpindir Horibasar Temple committee in Baliadangi upazila, filed a case with the police station on the following day.

7th international electric expo begins on March 9 in Dhaka

The three-day ‘7th International Electric Expo Bangladesh 2023’ is going to be held in Dhaka in order to increase the export of international quality electrical products produced in the country.

Bangladesh Electrical Merchandise Manufacturers Association (BEMMA) and WEM Bangladesh Limited are jointly organizing the fair will begin at International Convention Center Bashundhara on March 9 and will continue till March 11.

A total of 120 stalls of 150 brands, 40 foreign representatives, and 80 exhibitors will participate in the fair.

Mohammad Aftab Jabed, President of Bangladesh Electrical Merchandise Manufacturers Association, revealed this in a press conference at Dhaka Reporters Unity on Monday on the occasion of the Expo.

AIBL holds business performance meeting

The business performance meeting of Al-Arafah Islami Bank Limited (AIBL) was held in the capital Sunday.

Farman R Chowdhury, managing director and chief executive officer of the bank, was present at the meeting as chief guest, said a media statement.

Al-Arafah Islami Bank was set up as a private limited company on June 18, 1995.
