Narsingdi:Police intercepted and seized 20 cartons of yarn imported from China on suspicion of customs duty and tax evasion in the Madhabdi area of Narsingdi.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the yarn, weighing approximately 2,200 pounds and valued at around Tk 7 lakh, was confiscated along with the van transporting it. The vehicle was halted in the Birampur area after Kamrul Hasan, a Director of the Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA), expressed suspicions and escorted it to the Madhabdi Police Station.

The yarn was reportedly being transported from Jahangir Traders in Madhabdi to Modern Traders. The van's driver, whose identity has not been disclosed, has been taken into custody.

Police have initiated an investigation to verify the source of the shipment and sent a team to Purinda, where they discovered a large quantity of additional goods. A recovery operation is currently in progress.

Md Kamal Hossain, Officer-in-Charge of Madhabdi Police Station, stated that customs authorities have been informed about the seizure. "We are checking the import documents, payment of customs duties and taxes, and the intended destination of the yarn. Initially, no documents showing payment of import taxes were found," he said. He also noted that further action would be taken in accordance with legal protocols following the verification process.
