Dhaka: The government has issued an ordinance with provisions for imprisonment and fines for anyone who takes benefits by providing false information to get the benefits claiming them as injured or family members of the July uprising martyrs.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the provisions in the ‘Welfare and Rehabilitation of Families of Martyrs of the July Uprising and July Fighters Ordinance, 2025’ state that offenders will face a maximum two-year jail sentence and a fine of Tk 200,000 or double the amount of the benefit or financial assistance received if found guilty.
The Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs published the gazette on Tuesday night. The new regulations will be enforced immediately, as stated in the gazette.
The ordinance includes provisions for one-time and monthly financial aid payments to the injured and martyrs who contributed to dislodging the Awami League government. It aims to establish the essence and ideals of the July Uprising in state and national life, focusing on the welfare and rehabilitation of the families of the martyrs and July fighters, while also preserving history.
