2 remanded over death of restaurant employee in indiscriminate firing in N’ganj

A Narayanganj court on Tuesday placed a man and his son on a two-day remand each in connection with the death of a manager of a restaurant in Chashara during indiscriminate firing allegedly by a building owner following a dispute .

Those remanded are Azhar Talukdar and his son Arif Talukdar of Chashara.

Senior Judicial Magistrate Kawsar Alam passed the order when police produced them before the court with a seven-day remand prayer.

Quoting witnesses, police said Azhar Talukdar and his four brothers were the owners of six-story โ€˜Angur Vilaโ€™ building in the area.

A number of business establishments including โ€˜Sultan Bhai Restaurantโ€™ were housed on the ground floor of the building and the five brothers used to collect rent from the business establishments.

On Sunday night Azhar Talukdar entered โ€˜Sultan Bhai Restaurant and demanded Tk 10 lakh as water bill.

An altercation began between Azhar and restaurant owner Shukkur Ali when Shukkur said he would talk about the bill with Azizul, one of the brothers of Azhar.

At one stage, Azhar brought a pistol from his house and sprayed bullets, leaving five people including restuarnt manager Shafiqur Rahman Kajal injured.

Later, Kajal was taken to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on Monday night.

Shukkur Ali, owner of the restaurant, filed a case with Chashara Police station.

Police arrested Azhar and his son Arif in this connection.
